Dude I fricken love this thing, it's awesome. I think my favorite is number one, that pose is the best I think. Also I feel like if you choose to go in the direction of 3, a lot of cool stuff could happen with the design. I feel like the last two hybrid ones get a little too weird, and it loses the majestic touch of the other ones, that's why the antler/horn thing could be cool too, almost like a crown.
Hmm, yeah, I guess the more regal look could work better as king of the forest role, but there is something I noticed that I don't quite know what to make of. The stego design is a mashup of two things while the other one has elements of Dino, tiger, and a little bit of ram (maybe that's just the pose of the first one). Now I don't know if that means anything but I thought it was interesting, does less mashup lead to a more refined creature design or does it really matter? I guess that's just a little design theory or something, feel free to disregard it, haha.
Purebred vs. Mutt! It actually does make sense. Perhaps that's why the Ram-like one looks slightly more commonplace and less kingly than it's compadre. I've got a tough decision to make between numbers 1, 2, and 4.
Wow, yeah thats a simpler way of saying it, hahaha. indeed it will be, I think whatever you do, the big tail from 1 and 2 needs to stay, cuz its awesome and I really like what the stripes are doing on 2. but the whole regal look is awesome too. I gotta say though kev, I'm jealous of your Tiger drawing skills, I think whether I get in or not I'm going to spend a while the next couple of months getting firmiliar with animals.
Hey man, really appreciate the praise! As far as I'm concerned, your portfolio is freaking gold. But yeah, animals in general are a favorite of mine. A huge inspiration is Terryl Whitlatch. She works primarily in pen/copic and is somewhat of a guru in zoology. Definitely one of my favorite artists. Here's some of her stuff: http://characterdesignnotes.blogspot.com/2010/09/welcome-terryl-whitlatch.html
Well your tigers are badass so you deserve it, haha. And thanks, it is lacking color though like Thomas said, so I'm just hoping this wizard project turns out ok. Oh man, she's the Star Wars chick isn't she? Legendary.

ReplyDeleteDefinitely. I was weirded out by the dino ones too, so it's a toss up between the original stego design and the regal look of the ceratopsian guy.
